Signs of life in the kitchen garden

Things are really getting going in the kitchen garden thanks to the early sunshine this year. One thing that is showing the promise of a good summer to come are the trees. There are many sayings in the country side, most tend to be true and are entwined with nature. The one I'm talking about is the saying relating to the Oak & Ash tree, the saying goes " Oak before Ash, your in for a splash. Ash before Oak, your in for a soak. The good news is, the Oak is in full leaf already while the Ash buds have only just started to open.

The strawberries are flowering and have small berries developing on them already The Pea's are doing very well as are the onions, lettuce and spring onions.

The herbs are just starting to show

It shouldn't be long before the first crop of potatoes are ready

The sweet californian peppers are looking good

I have protectected the whole garden from rabbits with an electric fence, hopefully this will ensure my crop ends up on the table

I have also planted a bank behind the fence with mixed nasturtium (tom thumbs) which will not only add colour to the area, as the flowers and leaves are edible with a peppery taste they will also add colour to the salads.
